NEPAL II

These are some the pictures that I recently got from Erin from our trip to Nepal.

This was in the hotel in Kathmandu. When we arrived on the first day, we didn't think it was luxurious at all, but after a week away from civilization, we were grateful for it even if it didn't always have electricity (hence the reason I was wearing my headlamp).

Walking through the streets of Katahmandu

The departure gate in the Serkhet Airport. Here, the ladies are waiting to go through the last of the security check points to enter the gate.

There was a good deal of waiting around. Here we are outside the Serkhet Airport waiting to be picked up after our first flight was cancelled.

With the extra time in Serkhet, we were able to explore the city a little bit. I love this picture.

We took a walk around Serkhet

....and saw a place that was made to house widows in Nepal and teach them how to start a self sufficient business

That's Simon, the Mexican LAS student on the trip enjoying his poncho

Pictures of me and Erin by Rara Lake on Day 1 of the trek to the village

The rain shell is up on my backpack. This was the only day I needed to use it.

The girl at the tea house who served us our tea

And here are the native villagers that greeted us upon our arrival

Beautiful People

Me and Erin in the village

Tim and the Doc....he's still drinking from his rubbing alcohol bottle

And now time to work...trekking to the village to install some solar panels and lights

Wiring the houses

The lights we installed

Notice that nice solar panel attached to the roof...

Making sure to put the wires in the right place

On the last day after the doc had seen all his patients, he distributed chocolate to everyone. While we worked on the homes, he and the nurse tended to the medical needs of the villagers who had never seen a doctor in their lives.

A few group shots after the work was done

The beautiful sunrise over Rara Lake on the second day of the trek out of the village.

And then we arrived back in civilization in Kathmandu....This is the bathroom, but we didn't have electricity so we showered by flashlight. Here's the flashlight is resting on the toilet seat shining it's light on the shower area. Talk about being in the spotlight...

Fully showered and in Kathmandu on our last day before heading back to Switzerland
