South Africa

I spent two weeks in South Africa visiting my dear friend, Emma who is currently living in Cape Town. South Africa is a beautiful country and I feel like I barely touched the surface in terms of what there is to see and do.

Hiked up Lion's Head the first night I arrived in Cape Town. Here's a view of the coast.

Emma looking out over the coastline

Me and Emma on top of Lion's Head with Table Mountain in the background

The sunset from the top was amazing

A last peak at the sun for the day

We could even catch a little bit of the earth's curvature

And then the moon came up....trust me, these pictures do NOT do it justice.

The shores off Beach Road in Cape Town

The following day, I hiked Table Mountain in Cape Town

Me at the top of Table Mountain

On Friday, I took rented a road bike and a guide ( www.cyclethecape,com ) and cycled from Fish Hoek and back...57 miles round trip. Saw a number of animals along the way including penguins, ostriches, zebras and baboons.

This is the penguin reserve. These are the South African Jackass Penguins....

This guy thought he was king

Cycled out to Cape Point and had lunch there.

Some view from Cape Point

Made the climb up to Fisherman's Peak for more beautiful views.

And this is when I realized I was not in Kansas anymore...

Look closely in the background. You will see a zebra....a wild one!

Here he is up close

We stopped at an ostrich farm

Emma and I hiked on Saturday. These are some of the flowers that have been burned in fires.

Emma's apartment

...and her car!

The next week, I took off on the Baz Bus heading east on the coast to a town called Wilderness.

Views from the ride

My room in the backpackers for three nights.

27 km of untouched beach in Wilderness

I don't know what this is, but they were all over the beach...

And I arrived back in Cape Town on my birthday to have a celebration with Emma and her friends!
