Kazakhstan

I spent one week in Kazakhstan in the area of Almaty. Amazing untouched, young country. Beautiful mountains that form the border with China. That's me at the Big Almaty Lake. The gated house with mountains in the background is President Nazerbayev's house...or one of them. There's a picture of the Istanbul market in there too. Had a 7 hour layover in Istanbul so I went out into the city. The group shot is me, my co-worker (Daryl) and a bunch of our Kazakh students after one of the many dinners we had. Lots of horse meat and even fermented horse milk (the national drink of Kazakhstan) were had on this trip. Do you know that apples are from Kazakhstan?
