Outward Bound - Schwangau, Germany

I ran the Venice marathon and less than an hour after I finished the race I was on a boat to the airport in Venice. I then took a plane to Munich, a bus to the train station in Munich and a train to Fussen, Germany. I spent the next week in Schwangau, Germany with the sophomore class at Outward Bound.

Schwangau, Germany....a view from the Outward Bound grounds...

A photo of my group of 9 LAS students that I spent the entire week, 24-7 with and one of our Outward Bound leaders in the front...This picture was taken when we set out on day two of our hike

We got lost on the first day of the hike and so we had to go back and spend the night at Outward Bound, but we made the best of our time and cooked dinner over an open fire.

Here's a couple of my students cooking the sauce for the pasta...

We set out the next day to attempt a hike to a hut.

Here's a view of the Neuschwanstein Castle...it's the castle in the Bavarian Alps that Walt Disney modeled his after

Our second attempt to the hut was a success. In the middle of a hut in the Bavarian Alps we played lots of cards.

It was interesting to observe the kids cooking dinner in the hut.

Here's a group shot from the steps of the Fritz Putz hut including both our Outward Bound leaders.

View of the mountains from our hut

After spending the night in the hut, we hiked to the summit and then back to Outward Bound...a 7 hour trek in total. Here we are enjoying lunch at the summit. We were above the clouds so it was sunny.

Group shot at the summit

We encountered a lot of snow and not much sunlight on our descent.

And an up close shot of the Neuschwanstein Castle...do you see the resemblance to Walt Disney's castle?
